Defending champions Trinbago will kick off Caribbean T20 League 2021 with an opening clash with 5-time finalists Guyana.
Match Preview: August 26, 7:30 PM IST
Team Preview
Two top sides of the Caribbean T20 League will kick off the new season of the tournament. Trinbago is the most successful franchise of the league with 5 titles and Guyana is the side that made it into the five finals in Caribbean T20 League. Kieron Pollard led the side to another title in 2020 when they won every single game. They become the first side of the tournament which remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. New-season will see new challenges for both teams as few new players have joined the squad. Pollard’s side is top among all teams and they have good depth in such conditions. We saw a low-scoring game the previous season and this year, St Kitts will host all matches where we can expect some good batting show.
Guyana will bed led by Pooran who recently won the T20I series against Australia as captain. They have also included former Guyana skipper Shoaib Malik and Pakistan top-order batsman Mohammad Hafeez. Imran Tahir has also been retained who were in good touch in the Hundred. Shimron Hetmyer and Brandon King will take charge in top-order. The batting lineup is strong among all teams. They have a good combination of experience. They also have a quality overseas bowler Naveen-ul-Haq but it depends on the playing XI that he will play or not. Bowling might be a concern for Guyana.
Meanwhile, Trinbago will be lead by Pollard who has been a top-performer in T20 format. Defending champions have included Pakistani spinner Yasir Shah who recently played Test series against West Indies. Sri Lankan pacer Udana will lead the pace attack along with Ravi Rampaul and Jayden Seales. Akeal Hosein was excellent in the previous season and he may play maximum matches this season. They have Lendl Simmons and Denesh Ramdin in top-order who have the experience of playing in St Kitts. Colin Munro is a great sign and he can deliver a quick start to Trinbago at the top. Sunil Narine will be effective with both bat and ball. Trinbao is a better side as they have balance in their batting and bowling unit. Weak bowling may hurt Guyana but it would be a cracking T20 game.
Pitch Report
The surface of St Kitts is easy to bat and we will see good scores this season. It’s the first game here so batting would be easier. Spinners will be effective later in the game. Batting first would be an ideal call after winning the toss.
